Happy Birthday....

Happy Birthday Vicky. Of course I didn't forget my favorite sister in laws birthday, I just really suck at getting cards our. (I still have a Mothers Day card I didn't mail) I was thinking back on how long Vicky and I have known each other... It goes back to Leverns Shoe Factory. This was even pre David! So even before Vicky became my sister in law, I was proud to call her my friend. Hope you had a great Birthday.
And Happy Birthday to Matt Lau also. He is probably very happy that I don't have many pictures of him. Hope you are getting settled in and comfortable in your new place.

And great wishes for a fabulous summer season for everyone.

A Slightly better picture?

This is a little better picture of Goldie after her hair cut. It's hard to get a good picture of her and that's too bad, cause she is so cute.

Char was over early this morning and Jeff and I joined her for a motorcycle ride into western Wisconsin and about. We covered about 150 miles and lunch at a little cafe in Grantsburg. I saw one doe and her fawn standing in a drive way of a farm. The bike was starting to act funny when we were about 50 miles from home. We got home alright and Jeff starting looking to see if he could find the answer in the Honda book and on the VTX board. It turned out to be a dirty part on the shifter bar. And that is what makes me smile when I think that Char washed her bike after the ride to took advantage of the vast resources available in the cleaning gear in Jeff's cleaning arsenal.

And what's with the pots of flowers? Nothing.

Hope everyone had a great Holiday weekend.

That Darn Rabbit

There has been a few visitors to our garden and not all of them are welcome. The little furry fellow above is now living several miles out of town and away from my hosta. I'm not sure how many more of his buddy's are around but I'll keep setting the trap to thin out the numbers and meanwhile I'll put chili powder around the plants they seem to like the best. They have eaten the iris and a sedge beside the hosta. There aren't any natural preators on 2nd street, so what can I do?
Our first tree peonies is in bloom. We are waiting for two others to open, a red and a yellow.

Annual planting is coming to an end for another year. It's always a back breaker especially the week before Memorial Day. I still have a few things to do around our place but that's nothing compared to the hundreds of flats our merry little minions got in this past week. There are a few loose ends for this coming week, but the worst is over and life will go back to it's usual hum.

BEFORE

Along with the flowers coming out, so are the shedding dogs. Goldie went in for her spring trim this week. She always acts younger after a hair cut and she looks like a different dog. Willie just needs a good brushing. I know that isn't a very good picture but I don't think she likes having her picture taken.

AFTER

This morning Jeff and I went to a friends to sit on the lawn, drink coffee and watched the first marathon that ran through Stillwater. There were 2000 runners!, not all did the 26 miles race, but it was quite the race from what I am told. It was rather interesting to see the degree of ability. The three gentleman in the photo were the first of the elite runners. They seem to be very fit and in the head of the pack. We were sitting past the 15 mile mark.

Vickie and Ridley came to hang out for awhile this afternoon. We were joined by Jeffs Dad Bob and Charlene to grill out. The weather was perfect.
Ridley is becoming more mobile. He isn't official crawling yet, but it won't be long. He gets around the room by doing a sort of worm move, cute.

Tomorrow is the last day of a great weekend. We are going to start it off with a ride with Char on the bikes. Jeff is plotting a course to the south east I believe. Should be good weather for riding. That's my cue to go to bed and get some sleep.
So from me and Goldie..... Good night.

gardens and wedding

Jeff returned from DC safe and sound. I only have a few photos of the weekend in Washington and this one happens to be a picture of Jeff and his son in front of the Jefferson Memorial. Hey don't blame me, Jeff came up with that one.

The garden seems to be coming out late this spring. The Magnolia is about 10days late and we only have three or four Daffodils. Well the important thing is that there is life and it seems like a mild winter on our garden.

The shot of Lola looking out the window is one of the pictures practicing depth of field. I don't think I have it mastered quite yet, but this one turned out sort of how I wanted it to. She is a rather small cat and has no problem walking along the window sill.

We attended the wedding of Vickie's good friend and neighbor on the South Hill, Catie and her new husband Drew on Saturday. They are a wonderful couple and as the brides brother commented,'weddings gives one hope'. I always cry at weddings, Vickie had a hand full of tissues ready for me. Vickie was giving the bride a little assistance getting ready, so Jeff and I watched the baby while Mom applied makeup. He was a very good boy, I almost lost it though when Grandpa started singing the 'Smarty Pants Dance' song!
We were back in Stillwater around 3 and met Char's new friend Dan. He seems like an OK guy, we had dinner together. Char postponed the Father Daughter motorcycle ride due to chilly weather ; ) It was a bit cool for any distance or speed over 40 (I think). Anyway, that will be for another day.
Well, the sun is shining the birds are singing and The garden is calling. Have a great day, I'll be in touch......
